Why Qemam?
The transition into academia is not solely a matter of abilities, it is also impacted by early exposure to the academic environment and its demands. Within this context, many students from Arab society facing the challenges of this transition require support and guidance, including:
A language barrier with academic Hebrew
professional jargon, academic writing and communication in the campus environment.
Challenges related to study approaches and strategies
time management, organizing materials, building a study plan and exam prep.
Challenges related to limited familiarity with the academic environment
rules and regulations, available services and how to access academic support.
Challenges of adapting and integrating to campus life
building a social network, developing a sense of belonging and coping with a new environment with different demands and expectations.
Challenges related to entry requirements
understanding the requirements, available application processes and preparing for exams or preliminary requirements
Challenges related to informed decision-making regarding the choice of field of study
knowing the available fields of study and subsequent professional pathways
What does the program include?
The Qemam program provides participants with content, experience and practical tools in four main areas: empowerment and leadership, community engagement and activism, academic and employment guidance, and an educational program that includes strengthening language skills, developing study skills and preparing for entrance exams for higher education.
Study days at a university as part of a structured learning framework, and a dedicated academic pathway that includes academic courses and training.
Developing personal, academic and job skills that reinforce preparedness for academic studies and entering the workforce.
Strengthening Hebrew language fluency and developing necessary skills for academic studies.
Preparation for integration into academic studies through preparatory courses for the psychometric exam and YAEL test.
Building a future-facing vision and a clear pathway through academic and employment counseling and guidance, together with visits to different universities and introductions to a range of academic pathways.
Individual support for each participant, ensuring ongoing, tailored support adapted to the needs of each individual.
Qemam in academia — the support continues beyond the transition year
The support provided through the Qemam program extends beyond the transition year and throughout participants’ years in higher education. It includes regular follow-ups and support to help participants cope with the demands of the university, make informed academic decisions and overcome challenges that may arise during the course of their studies.
As they approach the end of their studies, the focus shifts gradually toward employment, with participants receiving targeted support to help them plan a clear career path, prepare for the transition into the workforce and to integrate into high-quality positions that align with their chosen field of study and academic qualifications
